Skoda
Locomotive
Concept
In 2013, Studio F. A. Porsche was commissioned to design a new locomotive for the country’s public transport on behalf of the Ukrainian state railway. The studio created a new design with a specific focus on the cabin which was not based on the common and persistent design languages of the industry.
The overarching concept theme of the locomotive is a striking 180 degree visor combined with a continuous A-pillar. Following the philosophy of the studio, all design elements are carefully developed to improve the vehicles function. One example is the the well-designed shock absorber whichs not only supports the distribution of forces but also hides the clutch and other elements such as snow plows. As clean design element, it forms a frame for the locomotive and allows a dynamic side view.
Due to the political situation in the country, the project was unfortunately paused at the concept stage.
