Schmittenhöhebahn AG
Passagier Elektroschiff Maria Franziska von Trapp
The new electric vessel developed for Schmittenhöhebahn AG marks an important step towards sustainable tourism at Lake Zell. Conceived in response to growing visitor numbers, it combines a distinctive design created in collaboration with Studio F. A. Porsche with innovative, emission-free propulsion technology. Accommodating around 150 passengers, the vessel is designed for panoramic cruises, charter trips and events, while its virtually silent operation allows for a particularly immersive experience of the surrounding natural landscape.

The construction and transfer of the vessel from the shipyard on the Rhine to Zell am See presented a considerable logistical challenge. At the same time, its modern concept continues Lake Zell’s long tradition of electric navigation, which dates back to 1907, when Austria’s first electric vessel entered service there. The new vessel thus brings together regional heritage, contemporary design and sustainable mobility on the water.
